The Third Sector and Childhood Obesity
VONNE (in conjunction with Public Health North East) is reviewing the Third Sector’s involvement in services and activities relating to childhood obesity and weight management interventions.
The findings from this review will inform future commissioning arrangements for the design and delivery of obesity care pathways. The review also aims to maximise the opportunities for the Third Sector to be involved in the support, design and delivery of these pathways.
An obesity care pathway is an approach to managing obesity and associated health issues, which identifies at the outset what interventions are required and predicts the chronology of care, including treatment options, referral to appropriate services and follow-up. The approach is designed to provide comprehensive quality of care for patients and to give patients a clear view of their treatment and care plan.
VONNE is keen to ensure that all Third Sector organisations either working with children and young people or those who impact on child obesity (be that directly or indirectly e.g. you may be providing support and advice to parents or adults who in turn impact on children and young people and/or childhood obesity), have an opportunity to inform this review and put forward their views and comments.
With this in mind they have developed a questionnaire to help collate opinions and suggestions.
The questionnaire can be accessed via their website at:
http://www.vonne.co.uk/issues/health/
which also has an abridged online version which can be completed online.
Completed questionnaires should be returned to John Main at VONNE using the contact details below by close of play on Wednesday 20th February 2008.
If you would like further information on this review please contact John Main on 0191 233 2000 or via email john.main@vonne.org.uk
