Healthy City Investment Funding

A Healthy City Investment Funding Workshop was held on the 10th of November 2009 at St Mary and St Peters Community Project. Paula Phillips, Health Improvement Practitioner at the NHS South of Tyne and Wear gave a presentation on the funding available.

Points covered during the presentation included:

* where the healthy city investment funding originated from
* how it fits in to the wider healthy city agenda
* how voluntary and community groups can support health improvement of Sunderland’s population
* what the healthy city investment funding is looking for

Care First Careers

A new opportunity is coming in early 2010 for employers, which offers them a recruitment subsidy for taking on a young person in an adult social care role.

The scheme is called Care First Careers and has been jointly developed between Department of Work and Pensions and Department of Health with joint objectives of increasing youth employment and awareness of opportunities in the adult social care sector, whilst also supporting employers in the sector around recruitment and retention.

Adult Social Care Programme – £600k Provider Innovation Fund launches on 12th November

On the 12th November the Provider Development Project will formally commence with a "Festival of Ideas".  The event will also celebrate the launch of the Provider Development Innovation Fund.

The Project aims to support care service providers to work with the public sector on personalisation to better meet the care needs of service users. Expected outcomes include efficiency savings and improved services for people.

Safe, Sociable and Sensible Small Grant


SCVS are distributing £50,000 in small grants of up to £2,500 to Sunderland’s voluntary and community sector, on behalf of the NHS Trust, South of Tyne & Wear.

Ideas, activities and projects which help alleviate alcohol related issues in the local community are sought.
