Gateshead Advocacy and Information Network (GAIN) Project Co-ordinator
Full time (35 hours per week), secondment considered

GVOC are seeking a person with an understanding of and commitment to good practice in advocacy. The Co-ordinator supports advocacy projects and their workers in improving services to users of advocacy. They need someone with real initiative who can operate at a strategic level within the statutory sector. The job is varied including producing information, running meetings, writing reports, supporting advocates as well as other skills.

Salary scale: SO2 £26,067 fixed term contract until 30th April 2009

Administration & Information Officer (GAIN) (17.5 hours per week)

GVOC are seeking a person with very good communication skills to maintain & develop the GAIN website & database, produce the GAIN newsletter and leaflets, organise meetings and events and to undertake general office duties including minute taking.

Salary scale 5: (£18,907 pro rata) fixed term contract until 30th April 2009

AGE CONCERN
require volunteers to help with their advocacy project where volunteers will be placed within a residential home offering advocacy support to the residents on a weekly basis. This role may involve speaking on behalf of their client or accompanying the client to an appointment/review/GP or other professional setting. You may also be required to carry out a variety of other tasks such as negotiating or acting as a spokesperson. This may include writing letters, filling out forms and making telephone calls. This would suit anyone who has good communication skills and an interest in helping the elderly.

COMPASS COMMUNITY TRANSPORT provides a service transporting people in the local community to venues that they could not otherwise attend. Volunteers who have a full driving licence with a ‘category D’ on it are needed to drive the 16 seater mini bus used for this purpose. Full driver training to Midas standard is provided free and volunteer must be willing to take this up.

DURHAM WILDLIFE TRUST are a charity who’s purpose is to conserve wildlife and natural features and to promote nature conservation in the county of Durham, City of Sunderland and Boroughs of Gateshead, South Tyneside, Darlington and the coast. They currently require a volunteer Marketing Assistant who will assist the Marketing Manager in agreed aspects of fundraising and marketing for the charity. Areas available include supporting membership recruiters, PR, income from Trust magazine, direct mail, grant applications, events, corporate membership etc. Most of the work will be based within the friendly headquarters but some travel within the county may be required. Volunteers will also need reasonable communications skills, creativity and some commercial, customer service or sales/marketing experience would be desirable.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL works to achieve human rights for everyone by promoting general awareness of human rights and by opposing specific abuses of human rights. The Wearside division requires volunteers to participate Volunteers are required to participate in group discussions, lobby politicians by writing to them and any other letter writing required for the furtherance of the aims of Amnesty International. Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month at member’s homes. Volunteers should have good literacy skills with some knowledge of IT.

BREAST CANCER CAMPAIGN are looking volunteers to help to continue the research into the cure for breast cancer? Do you have skills and spare time that you would like to put to good use? They need volunteers to raise awareness and funds in their local community. You can choose a role to suit your interests and availability, whether it is being part of a local group, helping out at local events or organising an event of your own. Volunteers with all skills are welcome. Enthusiasm and an interest in fundraising would be an advantage.

CHERRY KNOWLE HOSPITAL are looking for volunteers to befriend service users and their carers and to communicate any problems and concerns to PALS Officers. Volunteers must be, or have been, a user of mental health services, be aged 18+, and undergo a selection and training process.
