The Third Sector Capacity Fund has been set up by One NorthEast.  The Fund will support strategic projects to strengthen the capacity of Third Sector organisations at a regional level, which will ultimately promote economic inclusion across the whole of the North East of England.

Awards will be to a maximum of £50,000 per project, for revenue expenditure before the 31st March 2008. The Fund is part of One NorthEast’s Single Programme and funded projects will contribute to the achievement of the Regional Economic Strategy (RES).

For more details of the Fund, contact:- Jim Mackison, Grants Manager, Community Foundation, Cale Cross, 156 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6SU.  Tel. 0191 222 0945.  E-mail: jm@communityfoundation.org.uk
The Community Foundation will be administering the Fund on behalf of One NorthEast.

Jim said “The Fund has a very specific aim so if someone has an idea for a project it would be best to have a chat with me to check if it could fit the Fund criteria.  I am looking forward to visiting organisations from across the North East region.  I am sure that the Fund will generate some really interesting applications”.

The first grants have been awarded to Funding Information North East, the North East Refugee Service and DISC.

Provisionally applications should be submitted by the end of January 2007 for a decision in early March; by the end of February for a decision in early April; by the end of March for a decision in early May and by the end of May for a decision in early July 2007.  This timetable is subject to change, dependent on the number of applications received and the funds available.  A Panel comprising representatives from the voluntary sector, VONNE, GONE and One NorthEast will consider the applications submitted.
