Be Part of Something Wonderful

Living in a community that’s stronger, safer, more together is something we all wish for but feel powerless to do anything about! Well now you can!

picture of 5 young people

Young people have a major influence on the way our communities are now and how they will be in the future. That’s why Sunderland City Council are running a major Community Transformation Programme that focuses on enabling young people, particularly those that currently feel disaffected and alienated, to radically change their attitudes and beliefs and the way they see and live their lives and become valuable members of their community.

Volunteers who they have trained to act as Performance Coaches have played a vital role in the success of the programme. Performance Coaches supplement the work of their professional trainers and to support the young people as they go through an intense and challenging process of change.

So far from being powerless you have the opportunity to be a real force for change by volunteering to become a Performance Coach and playing a fundamental role in making a real difference to the lives of young people and the well being of your community.

To find out more about the programme, what being a Performance Coach entails and other opportunities to get involved please contact:

Surveying VCS organisations that help support people to be independent

neiep logo

A survey is being conducted to identify non-health and social care services in the region that help support people to be independent. The work is being carried out by consultants (Peter Fletcher Associates) for the North East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NE IEP)

NE IEP brings together all the local authorities across the region to look at ways of improving public services and making them more efficient and effective.  This project is part of the NE IEP's work on adult social care and the aim is to identify areas where more investment in preventative services would lead to medium to longer-term savings in health and social care expenditure.

More information about this project is available on the NE IEP website at www.northeastiep.gov.uk/adult/independentliving.htm.

Peter Fletcher Associates are collecting information about services through a web based survey.

To access the survey log on to the following web link:
http://surveys.peter-fletcher-associates.co.uk/neiep_what_supports_independence.htm

The survey should be submitted by Wednesday 25 November at the latest.

If you have any technical queries then please contact Avis Duncan at Peter Fletcher Associates on 01434 684944. If you have any queries about the project please contact Iain Kitt on 0191 289 4969

Important Keyfund Informationkeyfund logo

In light of the present economic climate, Sunderland Voluntary Sector Youth Forum are focusing their resources more specifically on their organisational mission. This has led to the difficult decision to discontinue their license to deliver Keyfund in the Sunderland area.

As a result, from the 9th November Keyfund administration and support will be delivered to you by the central Keyfund Federation team. Therefore, please send all your Keyfund paperwork to the Keyfund Federation Office in Newcastle.

There is currently £23,500 left for Sunderland groups to access which must be spent before the end of March 2010

A letter from Hannah Eyres, Chief Executive at the Keyfund Federation regarding the situation is available to download here>>
